Chobe Savannah Lodge is perfect for getting away from it all. Honeymooners, anglers and those wanting to see traditional Africa will love Chobe Savannah. The lodge is located in the Caprivi Strip, a long panhandle enclosed by permanent water. Being on the Nambian side of the river means that guests get their passports stamped in tourist friendly little African-style border post along the way.
There are only 12 elegantly furnished thatched chalets, all with private decks and a combined bedroom / lounge area and en-suite facilities. All chalets are air-conditioned and have complimentary mini-bars.
The communal facilities on the banks of the river include a lovely pool and an open boma area.
A major attraction to this part of the Caprivi Strip is its elephant population which migrates freely across the Chobe River from Chobe National Park in neighbouring Botswana.
There is no set daily schedule. Instead guests have the choice of either joining a variety of activity excursions or just chilling out.
Choose from the following excursions: Game viewing boat trips in small maneuverable boats which make it easier to get up close to the animals. Fishing for bream or tiger fish (catch and release) Cultural village visits to one of the nearby communities where guests can learn about the deep rooted traditional life-styles of the people.
There are strong links between Chobe Savannah Lodge and the local people who live in the Ijambwe Village, and numerous sustainability projects have been introduced. Guests will get an insight into how the community catch fish, build houses, raise cattle, plant crops, weave baskets and brew beer.
Some of the short and medium term projects include the establishment of an eco-friendly veggie garden, the installation of water pumps, the establishment of a school.
Management and staff at Chobe Savannah Lodge realize how important it is to prepare the community for their future roles as custodians of conservancy. The Savanna Conservancy will be part of the proposed Transfrontier conservation area.
