Abu Camp is owned and managed by Wilderness Safaris. Along with its setting in a pristine riverine forest in the middle of the Okavango Delta, the main attraction at Abu Camp is the resident elephant herd which guests can 'meet', interact with, and go on elephant back safari tours.
Abu Camp has six en suite luxury tented units. Each tent is beautifully furnished with classic safari-style furnishings as well as a few antiques. The tents are high roofed and voluminous, and blend into the natural surroundings. A uniquely sculpted teak deck links each tent to the surrounding Jackleberry or Fig trees. In the evenings, well lit pathways lead to the main lodge which has a giant disused termite mound as its centrepiece! The main lodge comprises a lounge, dining area, well stocked bar and a library of coffee table field guides and bird books. Meals are served on the deck with views of a grove of hardwood trees and the lagoon with its resident hippos.
Abu Camp in Botswana offers morning, afternoon and night drives as well as mokoro trips along the Delta waterways during the flood season. Besides the traditional Botswana safari activities, the opportunity to interact and spend quality time with the elephant herd is Abu Camp's special attraction. Walk with them in the bush and ride on their backs (safely and in the company of skilled handlers); delight in the antics of the babies and gain a greater understanding of these magnificent mammals. This part of Bostwana is a bird watcher's paradise. Birding by traditional poled mokoro is especially good at the Okavango Delta lodge. Chances are that you'll see Malachite Kingfisher, White-browed Coucal, Luapula Cisticola, Pied Kingfisher, Rufous-bellied Heron and Great Egret. Game that inhabits the 180 000 hectare concession at Abu Camp includes: Lion, giraffe, zebra, elephant, impala, tsessebe and lechwe, warthog and buffalo.
