Xigera (pronounced keejera) is in the heart of Botswana's Okavango Delta! Xigera is also home to the very rare sitatunga antelope which is drawn to the floodplains and wetlands of the island's permanent water channels.
Xigera has ten furnished rooms each with their own en suite bathroom with outdoor shower. Be woken by drumbeats and a cup of coffee on the veranda while watching the sun rise over the floodplains.
Thatch covers Xigera's central dining area, pub and lounge which are raised on a wooden deck to enhance views over the floodplains. Wooden walkways connect the eight tents of Xigera to the main camp as well as a bridge which then stretches over the water to a neighbouring delta island.
The area where the animals pass when crossing the bridge is also known as the 'long jump pit'. This novel concept is created by raking smooth the soft sand every night so that in the mornings guests can 'read the newspaper' and see what animals have made their way through the camp!
After a day of exploring the Okavango Delta channels in mokoro's, go out on safari in open 4x4 vehicles or on foot. A dip in the plunge pool back at Xigera refreshes guests before dinner.
Meals and chilled drinks are enjoyed in the lounge and dining area while the boma serves is a romantic setting under the clear night skies of Botswana.
