Jao Camp, Okavango Delta accommodation
Jao Camp, situated on a remote island in the Okavango Delta, is remote and utterly African. Access to the luxurious Jao Camp is restricted to light aircraft and besides your fellow guests at the lodge, you won’t see another human being while you are there.
X-Factors of Jao Camp
- Exclusivity and remoteness of the camp
- Concentration of wildlife and birdlife
- Luxury accommodation and outdoor ‘salas’
- Jao’s therapy room for spa treatments in paradise
Jao Camp has nine very stylish canvas and thatch tents with en-suite bathrooms. My absolute favourite - an open air shower- is the perfect way to start your day in the bush.
Indulgent outdoor ‘salas’ are designed to provide a cool and peaceful escape for an afternoon siesta. Sit and relax on your veranda on lazy afternoons.
For the indulgent, enjoy a treatment in the spa. Can you think of anything more relaxing that a Swedish massage on the banks of the Okavango with the Hippos grunting only meters away?
Water levels of the Okavango Delta determine the activities at Jao but they include mokoro or boat trips on the delta channels, game drives and walks, and fishing.
The area around Jao Camp is very seasonal, so it can get very dry in the winter months and flooded in the summer. This means that activities at Jao can vary a lot depending on when you visit.
The activities at Jao include mokoro (dug-out canoe) excursions, boats, fishing, day and night game drives and guided walks. During an unusually high flood season, game drives begin by boating out to a nearby island - Hunda Island - where the vehicles are waiting, and the drive begins from there.
