Whether seated at the open bar, dining room or lounge, the thatched roof building commands an impressive view of the magnificent Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru in the neighbouring country of Tanzania.
17 individual tents and one family-sized house make up the accommodation of Tortilis Camp, ensuring exclusivity and personalisation for the guests. The camp is well aware of its role in the preservation of its environment, and continuously strives to reduce its carbon footprint through rustic simplicity, unobtrusive design and attention to comfort without compromising the ecosystem.
All the tents are raised from the ground by sturdy wooden decks, while also sheltered by an overhanging thatch roof extending over the veranda. Every tent is generously spacious, with luxurious king-size beds or twin beds, a dressing area as well as an en suite bathroom with hot and cold pressurised running water.
Delicious traditional North Italian meals are prepared from the owner’s family recipe cookbook, while the accompanying herbs and salads are prepared from those grown in the camp’s own garden.
Tortilis Camp is a fantastic central place to base safaris and game drives from. Located among wild herds of buffalo and elephant, the camp offers the opportunity for guests to be guided on foot by a trained Maasai guide. Alternatively, after a day of activities guests may wish to indulge in sundowners atop Kitirua Hill while watching the sun splash the snows of Kilimanjaro a soft pink.
