Governors Camp
A colourful and exciting camp, Governors Camp has an incredible location, right inside the Masai Mara Reserve. Perched on the banks of the Mara River you can watch the crocodiles attempting to snag the migration wildebeest during the annual Great Migration. The setting of Governors Camp is magical. As one of the oldest camps in Kenya Governors Camp used to be reserved for top officials only, and today is a popular lodge for the migration.
Governors Camp is quite large with 27 canvas tents. Some of the tents have views across the river while others overlook the sweeping plains of the Masai Mara. All tents have are large with colourful décor, en suite bathrooms and flushing toilets. The tents are in classic safari style with private verandas perfect for game viewing. Don’t expect utter luxury, but the rooms are clean and comfortable.
There is plenty to keep you busy at Governors Camp. Known for their superb guides. This is where Governors Camp really excels. You are woken up in the early morning with hot chocolate in preparation for a long day of game viewing.
Start off with a game drive through the Masai Mara in a 4x4 vehicle with your guide and tracker. This is a great way to get very close to the animals. In the late morning you could enjoy a bush walk with your armed ranger who will make the bush come alive with stories of past experiences.
Don’t miss out on a hot air balloon safari. Fly over the Masai Mara and watch the herds of wild animals below you. It is an experience you will never forget and is well worth the extra cost. Other activities at Governors Camp include cultural visits to the Masai people, a visit to the local school or you can just kick back and relax in the spa
