Kaya Mawa Lodge, Lake Malawi accommodation
The isolated and incredibly beautiful Likoma Island, in the far north of Lake Malawi, is a mere seventeen kilometers squared: an unspoilt, eco-friendly paradise of sandy beaches, crystal clear lake, mango trees and enormous baobabs where locals live by fishing and farming rice and cassava.
X-Factors of Kaya Mawa Lodge
- Unspoilt, intimate island paradise
- Luxuriously appointed rooms with four-poster beds
- Romance and relaxation
- Scuba diving, snorkeling and sailing
Kaya Mawa Lodge - on the southwest tip of Likoma Island - was built almost completely by hand with the help of local craftsman, using stone, teak and thatch. The ten cottages are set into a granite headland and some are accessible only by walkways over the water. Expansive mahogany four-poster beds, sunken stone baths, and private terraces onto the water are some of the luxuries that adorn the rooms at Kaya Mawa Lodge. The Mango Bar serves fresh juices and cocktails; there are hammocks slung from the trees; and, if guests can tear themselves from the lodge, water activities such as sailing on Lake Malawi, scuba diving and snorkeling are on offer. Kaya Mawa’s honeymoon suite is quintessentially romantic and is on its own private island, accessible only by boat. It too has a sumptuous four-poster bed, sunken stone bath, and a shower with spectacular views.
