Nyika National Park, Malawi
The Nyika National Park is on a plateau 2000 metres above sea level and is a lovely region of rolling hills, forests and woodland. During the rainy season (from November to April), a myriad wildflowers create a spectacular carpet of colours. Seeing up to 120 species of orchid flowering up close and personal is a magical experience. Antelope, zebras and monkeys abound in the park, and it is possible to walk and horse ride in Nyika - a highlight for many tourists. Our Nyika National Park recommendations: The stone and log cabins of Chelinda Lodge are charming and an upstairs living room opens onto an open deck with amazing views over a stocked trout dam. This is the land of plenty for nature lovers and keen birders are advised to include Chelinda Lodge in their visit to Malawi as the area is inhabited by over four hundred species of birds. If you are interested in plants, time your visit over the rainy season when over two hundred types of orchids are in flower. More information and advice... |
