Vilanculos, Mozambique
Calling all sun lovers! Mozambique is the beach destination of choice for an increasing number of travellers. This is no surprise to us. They are coming for the excellent weather and Mozambique's pristine coastline which offers some of the world's best diving and snorkelling.
Vilanculos is the gateway to the islands and private resorts on the Bazaruto Archipelago. For the budget traveller, Bazaruto is out of reach, so Vilanculos itself is the best bet for reasonable guesthouses within a short walk of the beach.
The Bazaruto Archipelago, a pocket of secluded islands off Vilanculos, is a popular honeymoon destination, offering luxurious and secluded lodges on private beaches. Think beach villas and private plunge pools overlooking the ocean. Getting there is easy with daily flights from Johannesburg or the Kruger National Park to Vilanculos.
For absolute exclusivity, visit the lodges in Pemba, northern Mozambique. The Querimbas Airchipelago is remote and pristine with only a handful of lodges on offer.
