Damaraland, Namibia
The Damara people living here give the area its name. One of the most scenic areas of Namibia, this region is home to some fascinating places to visit. The Brandberg is Namibia's highest mountain and home to the famous "White Lady" bushman painting. Twyfelfontein is a wonderful rocky outcrop with thousands of Bushman engravings. Spitzkoppe is a pointed mountain that is a place of great mystery to the ancient San people.
There is also the Petrified Forest which is millions of years old. The Vingerklip (finger rock) is a towering finger of limestone that rises 35m above its base. It is a remnant of a plateau formed over 15 million years ago. A lovely thing to do is to go on a rhino and elephant tracking safaris. Proceeds from these safaris go towards the conservation of these animals.

Damaraland is the area between Swakopmund and Etosha National Park. This beautiful region has two distinct features: geology and wildlife. The Brandberg, Namibia's highest mountain at 2 573 metres, and Spitzkoppe are two favourite places for climbers in Namibia. Discover the rock engravings at Twyfelfontein and see one of the richest collections of rock art in the world. Tracking the Namib Desert elephant and rare desert black rhino are immensely rewarding experiences when you see them in their natural habitat.

| Best time to visit |
|
The Damaraland region and surrounding area become extremely hot in the summer months which are from October to April. If you have the spirit to brave this heat, you will have a lovely time. We recommend you pick a lodge with air conditioning and even a pool to cool off! The winter months of May to September are cooler and therefore the most popular. If you are visiting the Park during this time, make sure to book well in advance as it gets busy.
