Erongo Wilderness Lodge with its unusual location amid granite formations on the outskirts of an ancient volcano is a spectacular feature in the heart of a country renowned for it's scenic beauty. It is great place to stop over on your way from Etosha to Windhoek for some rest and relaxation before your flight home.
As part of the massive Erongo Mountain Nature Conservancy, Erongo Wilderness Lodge is in a special and unique wilderness area.
In the Erongo Mountains, the desert, mountain and bushveld ecosystems combine in a natural reserve within a vast volcanic crater complex. This area boasts unparalleled biodiversity, and is renowned as a birding 'hotspot'.
Erongo Wilderness Lodge has 10 tented chalets, built on stilts, set against towering granite formations. Each chalet has its own niche amongst the rocks, ensuring peace, privacy and exclusivity. Raised wooden walkways and natural stone steps connect the chalets to the main area, where the restaurant, lounge, swimming pool and sundowner deck invite you to relax and fully unwind.
The luxury Meru tents at Erongo Wilderness Lodge are pitched under steep thatched roofs for shade, and have netting across all windows and doors, allowing only the breeze to enter. The en-suite bathrooms are built around the existing rocks and trees, naturally.
Put on your hiking boots because walking is the best way to experience the beauty of the Erongo Mountains. Specialised guides will share their knowledge of the local fauna, flora, and folklore on walks over granite domes and through rich valleys.
Not only is walking great exercise but its also the perfect way to enjoy the spectacular birdlife which ranges from soaring raptors to tiny sunbirds. The nests of two breeding pairs of Verreaux's Eagles can be seen on cliff faces, with sightings of this magnificent bird occurring nearly every day.
There are many activities and attractions to enjoy at Erongo. Hop on board for a nature drive, get to know Namibia's only wine producer, fly a microlight, go quad biking and visit additional Bushman Rock Art sites. And if diamonds are your best friend marvel at the various gem jewellery and other craft outlets in nearby Omaruru.
