Bagatelle Lodge offers so much more than the regular safari experience. Nowhere else can guests so easily immerse themselves in the beauty and splendour of the Kalahari. Enjoy overlooking the famous red dunes and a local waterhole, all while sipping a glass of wine from the lodge's superb wine-cellar
In French, the word bagatelle means something small and of little significance. This could not be further from the truth when describing the Bagatelle Lodge.
This luxurious retreat is located in the southern part of the Kalahari Desert, and offers guests the opportunity to immerse themselves in the Namibian savanna. All the bungalows boast spectacular views over the famous red Kalahari sand-dunes. You can either choose a chalet built on stilts and made out of wood or one of the more rustic homes, made out of 'hay bales'. Otherwise if you prefer camping, the Kalahari Game Lodge has five individual campsites set amongst the red sand dunes.
At the heart of the lodge sits the old farmhouse which has been renovated, upgraded and serves as the main meeting point for guests. This residence has a huge enclosed porch, where guests can have a drink and view the splendour of the luring Kalahari.
If you like to lie at the pool or relax in a hammock under the unspoiled African sky, then the Bagatelle Lodge is your ideal destination. Play pool in the recreation area before catching some of the African sun beside the sparkling pool. However, if you're in an adventurous mood, then set out on a Bagatelle Lodge game drive. These excursions leave in the early morning or late afternoon, and offer the rare opportunity to experience the diverse wildlife as well as the dune topography and the Kalahari flora.
In association with the Cheetah Conservation Fund, the lodge has built a cheetah enclosure. This is a great way to view the cheetah up-close-and-personal. Bagatelle lodge also boasts a viewing platform. From here guests can enjoy a glass of wine from the lodge's well-stocked cellar, while watching the local wildlife visit a waterhole.
The valleys here are commonly called the 'streets', and in a setting where the roads are empowered by the colour red, it's only after heavy rainfall that you will begin to see one of God's sweetest miracles.
