In striking contrast to the arid landscapes of northwest Namibia, an oasis exists along the banks of the Kunene River and it is in the midst of this oasis that Serra Cafema Camp can be found. Due to its remoteness, access to Serra Cafema is restricted to light aircraft.
Serra Cafema Camp accommodates a total of eighteen guests, including tour leaders, there are six canvas and thatched chalets and one family chalet, sleeping four.
By day, thatched roofing keeps the seven raised suites cool while private decks overlook the winding Kunene River offering magnificent views of the plains below.
Each canvas and wood suite features its own en-suite bathroom and has been cleverly constructed to fit in with its natural surroundings.
All chalets are complete with up to three ceiling fans per room and large protective mosquito nets ensure a restful sleep in the bush.
Meals are served in Serra Cafema’s central dining room, known as the Ozonganda and here you are encouraged to mingle at the adjacent cosy bar and glistening swimming pool. A library, shop and sunken lounge are also available for your convenience.
The dunes and plains of northwest Namibia are speckled with springbok, ostrich and oryx and can either be explored in 4x4 vehicles or for the brave and the reckless, on quad bikes!
For those looking for peace and tranquillity, a boat trip down the Kunene River is also an option as well as a full day outing to Marienfluss Valley.
The camp’s Portuguese name comes from the mountains to the north and the region is shared with gracious Himba people who are also some of Africa’s last true nomadic people.
Due to its remoteness, access to Serra Cafema is restricted to light aircraft.
