Cape Cross Lodge is situated on the Skeleton Coast only 4 kilometers away from the Cape Cross Seal Reserve. The lodge is built in mix of Cape Dutch and west-coast fishing village style, and sports its own private beach
Cape Cross Lodge offers thirteen luxury double rooms, all located on the top floor of the lodge, to ensure the best possible views of the sea.
All rooms have private balconies for an afternoon siesta or a morning read. Two of the rooms are inter-leading, making them perfect for families.
One thing to bear in mind is that the lodge does cater for day visitors at lunch time, which means that it can get quite busy at that time of day.
The lounge and dining areas have lovely fire places to ensure a warm and cosy atmosphere- especially in winter when it can get quite chilly. The cocktail bar and private wine cellars are great places to relax after a hard day of watching the seals!
Cape Cross was the first European landing place in Southern Africa in the year 1485 and as a memento a replica of the original cross was created and erected on the beach.
Take a walk down memory lane and enjoy the history of the area as well as a visit to the Cape Fur Seal colony. Stay alert and compete at who can spot the black backed jackal or the brown hyena looking for a baby seal to grab.
Other activities offered at the lodge are a visit to the petrified salt lagoon where you can try your hand at salt mining, or enjoy the start lunar landscape of the Messum Crater. The excursion not only allows you to see the saltpans but you get to encounter unique dessert plants, ancient bushman paintings and magnificent lichen fields.
For those who have a keen interest in photography, geology and history, Cape Lodge will become your ultimate Encyclopedia of nature and beyond.
