Skeleton Coast Camp, Skeleton Coast accommodation
The luxurious Skeleton Coast Camp is an ideal location from which to explore the desert plains of Namibia’s Skeleton Coast National Park. Because of its remote location you can only get to the Skeleton Coast Camp by charter flight making it a once in a lifetime destination.
X-Factors of Skeleton Coast Camp
- Diverse landscapes from sand dunes, canyons and salt pans to shipwrecks and ocean
- Sightings of the rare desert elephant
- Photographer's dream
- Bizarre desert plants and insects
One of the best parts of the Skeleton Coast is that sea breezes from the cold Benguela current reduce the day time temperatures to an average of twenty eight degrees in summer. The Skeleton Coast is effectively a "cool desert"!
Skeleton Coast Camp is located on an island in the dry Khumib riverbed and accommodates up to twelve guests in luxuriously spacious private tents, each with an en suite bathroom. An old gnarled Leadwood tree offers shelter from the elements, and makes for a shady dining room for outdoor meals.
The rare desert elephant, giraffe, springbok, oryx, brown hyena, jackal and occasionally even cheetah are spotted on game drives as they traverse the plains.
Walking safaris through the desolate landscapes are a must. Strangely there is an incredible plant life in this arid landscape - although often you have to look closely to spot it!
Other excursions from Skeleton Coast Camp include visits to the clay castles of the Hoarusib River, Rocky Point, Himba villages or shipwreck sites. Neil's thoughts on Skeleton Coast Camp:
The landscape at Skeleton Coast Camp is incredibly rugged and harsh, so this is a camp for someone wanting a proper wilderness experience and who has an adventurous spirit!
