The Desert Homestead is approximately 32km southeast of Sossusvlei and lies in a wide grassy valley, sheltered by the Nubib, Tsaris and Naukluft mountains and with views of the distant dunes of the Namib Desert in the west.

A working ranch, The Desert Homestead has 20 thatched, en-suite chalets, each with its own verandah under a latte canopy with northern views extending to the Rotterkaum Mountains. Day trips into Sossusvlei are possible from your base here at the Desert Homestead.
The emphasis at the Desert Homestead is on tranquility, the simple pleasures, and showcasing the fragile beauty of this remarkable environment. All guest amenities are environmentally friendly. There is a refreshing pool to enjoy after a long day in the desert.

Delectably fresh farm cuisine at Desert Homestead is served in an alfresco setting. Most of the fresh produce is grown at the lodge.

Be sure to stay long enough at Desert Homestead to enjoy nature excursions into the nature reserve and in particular, go on a horseback safari with the opportunity to sleep-out in the desert. The horseback safaris are fully catered by charming and informative hosts, and are truly the best way to explore this beautiful area.

Lise's thoughts on Desert Homestead:

The hosts at Desert Homestead just can't do enough to make sure that your stay with them is fantastic. This is African hospitality at its best. The horse trails offered at Desert Homestead are a great way to see the desert, even for someone like me who doesn't know the front-end from the back-end of a horse! You get a completely different perspective from horseback and it is absolutely enthralling!
