Game drives and tours within the Kruger Park can either be on a self-drive basis (restricted to the public roads), or guests can join open-vehicle safaris operated by SA National Parks. These lodges are located within the borders of the Kruger National Park on large tracts of private concession land. There are no fences between the concession and the Kruger Park, so animals roam freely. In 1956 a group of conservation-minded landowners who had witnessed the degradation of this once pristine wilderness area, formed an association to protect it. Sharing a common unfenced border with the Kruger National Park allowing animals free range, the reserve offers guests opportunities to view the greatest diversity of wildlife that Africa has to offer.
