The historic site on which David and Nicky Rattray developed Fugitives' Drift Lodge in KwaZulu-Natal tells a tale of the great battles of the Anglo Zulu War of 1879, that took place at Isandlwana and Rorke's Drift nearby.
To enjoy and educate yourself with a rich history and cultural past, Fugitives' Drift Lodge welcomes you!
In the early late 1900's the British invaded Zululand and the few survivors from Isandlwana came to rest at Fugitives' Drift Lodge - home to the Rattray family.
Fugitives' Drift Lodge is the original Rattray family homestead and guests are accommodated in true Rattray style in luxurious, tastefully decorated en-suite cottages. Each has a cool veranda looking onto the bushveld of the battlefields.
It's been said one of the many features of the Lodge is the immaculate garden. Be prepared for an array of chirping birds and take time off in the large lapping swimming pool on the lip of the Buffalo River gorge.
Once you've spotted every bird in sight, reward yourself with chilled sundowners around a fire under a canopy of Paperbarks and marvel over the majestic backdrop of Isandlwana.
Join in for a scrumptious meal and absorb the mix of home and modern flavours, prepared and done to perfection. Whilst dining it's time to appreciate memorabilia from the war adding character to Fugitives' Drift Lodge's central lounge and dining area, decked out in rich shades and warm textures.
It is essential to experience a Battliefied Tour at Fugitives' Drift. Knowledgeable guides adept at storytelling recount tales of the Anglo-Zulu War during tours of the Rorke's Drift and Isandlwana battlefields and Fugitives' Drift.
Put on your hiking boots because walking, hiking and horse riding in the Fugitives' Drift Reserve are other possible adventurous pursuits to keep you on edge.
