Rocktail Beach Camp is set a little way back from the shoreline in a shaded forest within the Maputaland Marine Reserve. It is famous for it's access to the world-class diving and snorkelling which takes place within a World Heritage Sitereserve. Divers at Rocktail Bay will have exclusive access to these pristine dive sites.
Rocktail Beach Camp has 17 ensuite rooms with indoor showers that open out onto the dense forest. There are 7 family units with a shared bathroom and 2 bedrooms for two adults and two children. The honeymoon suite has lovely views of these aand the dune forest. All the rooms have overhead fans.
Rocktail Beach Camp also has a central dining room, bar and lounge with large wrap-around veranda. There is an elevated viewing deck with sea views. The camp's main area has a wine cellar, large pool, curio shop and children's playroom, complete with board games and other fun activities for families.
It is a 20 minute walk from the camp to the remote, unspoilt beach. From a scuba diving perspective, Rocktail Bay is unique. The reef systems here are amongst the most pristine in the world, boasting healthy soft and hard corals. At one particular site various eels are commonly seen. Many different sharks are sighted at intervals, including great hammerheads, tiger sharks, blacktip reef sharks and the enormous whale shark.
And then from October to March has loggerhead and leatherback turtles come ashore at night to lay their eggs. In winter whales are often seen off Rocktail -both humpback and southern right whales.
