Gorah Elephant Camp

Gorah Elephant Camp, Eastern Cape

South Africa's Addo Elephant National Park, home to the Big Five, covers seven diverse vegetation zones and has huge herds of elephant. Gorah Elephant Camp, a Hunters Hotel property, has prime position within the park.

Gorah House is an impressive nineteenth century homestead reminiscent of the romantic safari of bygone times. It is a truly 'Out of Africa' experience to enjoy high tea on the deep, cool verandah overlookinga large waterhole where elephants come to drink everyday.

Gorah is the only private concession and safari camp within the malaria-free Addo Elephant National Park which is home to 450 elephants, huge herds of Cape buffalo and the rest of the Big 5.

Raised wooden walkways lead to 11 spacious luxurious tented suites with charming en-suite bathrooms. The romantic 1900's era tents are uniquely constructed under a protective thatched canopy. The rooms, lounge area and the private deck have views of the grasslands which characterize the Eastern Cape landscape which is often peppered with game. There are solar-powered ceiling fans and in-house communication between the tents and the Main House.

In the evenings guests gather in the plush and welcoming lounge for an aperitif before dinner. The camps head chef prepares world-class dishes, which are paired with some of South Africa's finest wines from Gorah's extensive collection.

The dining room is intimate, romantic and elegantly furnished; softly lit by candles and candelabra. A vast antique table groans under a lavish and memorable breakfast spread, which can be enjoyed on a peaceful terrace facing the waterhole.

Knowledgeable, experienced game rangers conduct day and night game drives through the Addo Elephant National Park, sharing their vast knowledge of the Eastern Cape's plants, insects, birds and animals. Keep a lookout for the Eastern Cape's remarkable endangered flightless dung beetle. Sightings of elephant are a near certainty and numbers of herds have boomed boasting the highest density of elephants on earth. Expect to also see lion, buffalo, black rhino, tsetsebe, warthog and other big game.
