KARIEGA GAME RESERVE

Kariega Game Reserve, Eastern Cape accommodation

Kariega Game Reserve spans five thousand hectares in the Eastern Cape and accommodates guests at either the luxurious Ukhozi Lodge on an all inclusive basis or Kariega Lodge where the chalets have a self-catering option.

X-Factors of Kariega Game Reserve

  • Kariega Lodge is child friendly
  • Self-catering option
  • Heated swimming pool at Ukhozi Lodge
  • Wide variety of animals and unusual plant species

The ten log suites of Kariega’s Ukhozi Lodge are modern with an African theme and have a private deck with wonderful views of the reserve. A central dining room is stylish yet cosy with a big log fire to ward off the night chill of the Eastern Cape highlands in the winter months. The heated swimming pool is a popular waterhole for guests.

Although Ukhozi Lodge does not accept children under the age of ten, Kariega Lodge is very child friendly. The ethnic log chalets are comfortably furnished and fully serviced. Each has a private viewing deck and some of the chalets have a private pool. A kitchenette allows for self-catering although guests at Kariega Lodge can also dine on traditional South African cuisine at the main lodge’s restaurant or around the fire in the boma.

Lion, elephant, leopard, rhino, hippo, giraffe, zebra, eland, wildebeest, waterbuck and a variety of antelope, as well as a myriad of bird species can be spotted on informative game drives and walking safaris through the Kariega Game Reserve. A cruise on the Kariega River, admiring the Eastern Cape vegetation, which has an ancient, jurassic quality to it, and looking out for fish eagles is a lovely way to spend the late afternoon.
