Rocktail Bay Lodge

Rocktail Bay Lodge, Kwazulu Natal

Wilderness Safaris' Rocktail Bay Lodge is a real celebration of nature: it falls within the Greater St Lucia Wetland Park and the Maputaland Marine Reserve is just off shore of Rocktail Bay. Wilderness Safaris pride themselves on hosting their guests in some of the most remote and pristine locations in South Africa and Rocktail Bay Lodge is one of these locations. Leave telephones, television and crowds behind and escape to a remote hideaway.

Join the lucky ones in northern Natal and book your stay at Rocktail Bay Lodge!

Within a proclaimed World Heritage Site and set amongst trees inland of the beach, Rocktail Bay Lodge’s eleven en-suite chalets each feature private ‘forest showers’, providing peace and solitude.

All “treehouse” chalets are raised on stilts into the forest canopy, creating a bush effect like no other! Wholesome meals are served at the main lodge where guests can have a drink in the pub or relax in a comfortable lounge.

Under giant Natal Mahogany trees, a boardwalk travels from the lodge through the dune forest and down to the glorious beach. The location of Rocktail Bay Lodge in the Greater St Lucia Wetland Park will leave nature lovers spoilt for choice, as the list of activities offered is extensive.

Some of the bird ‘specials’ to be found during nature walks in the St Lucia Wetland Park are the green twinspot, green coucal, grey waxbill, purplecrested and Livingstone's louries. Natal robin, buff-spotted flufftail, starred robin, Woodwards batis, and jewel-like emerald cuckoo in forests, and pink throated long claw and rufous bellied heron in marshy areas.

Kilometers of deserted, pristine beaches stretch alongside the warm and bountiful waters of the Indian Ocean and the Maputaland Marine Reserve. These waters are a haven for divers who may encounter shoals of migrating sardines, dolphins, whales, leatherback and loggerhead turtles, and many species of fish.

Found within the Maputaland Coastal Forest Reserve and neighbouring the Maputaland Marine Reserve, Rocktail Bay Lodge offers perhaps the most private beach experience in South Africa!
