Kirkmans Kamp, Sabi Sand accommodation
Kirkman's Kamp is one of the old colonial lodges in the Sabi Sand Game Reserve, and has managed to retain its upmarket air, without becoming stuffy. The property is large but only has 18 rooms, so there is a lovely sense of space and privacy. I will admit to spending most of my time at Kirkman's relaxing on the veranda, being served tea and cake while the animals trotted past!
X-Factors of Kirkmans Kamp
• Colonial atmosphere • Fantastic views from the rooms • The excellent CC Africa service • In the Sabi Sands Game Reserve
Kirkman’s Kamp, with its spectacular views of the unspoilt wilderness and the Sabi Sand River, is regarded by serious safari goers as one of the best lodges in the Sabi Sand Game Reserve. Because of its location in the Sabi Sands, you have every chance of seeing the big five when you visit Kirkman's.
Game drives are enjoyed in the early morning and late afternoon when the animals are most likely to be seen. Your ranger and tracker will take you out on an open 4x4 so that you can get up close to the animals. Often the wild animals come right up to the vehicle, close enough for you to hear them breathing!
The colonial atmosphere of gracious style and luxury of Kirkman's Kamp has been retained, and you step back in time upon entering the original homestead, which now houses the Lodge’s sitting, bar and dining areas. Each of the 18 cottages has a private veranda and is furnished in the same charming style.
Lise's thoughts on Kirkman's Camp: Lorna and I visited Kirkman's together and both of us wanted to stay forever. Lorna was out and about on game drives and bush walks while I lazed away in comfort waiting for the animals to come to me! Kirkman's is luxurious but not flash, old worlde without being stuffy.
