Chimpanzee Trekking Safari

You may want to see the chimps when you do your gorilla trekking safari in Uganda, or perhaps you are pressed for time and want to combine a Serengeti safari with seeing the chimps.

How can you
combine interacting with the chimps with your East Africa safari? Well, Ngamba Island in Uganda offers the oppurtunity to interact with orphan chimps while Mahale in Tanzania is a great place for chimp trekking in the forest
Ngamba Island Chimp Sanctuary
Jane Goodall founded the Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary in Lake Victoria in Uganda. Here you can interact with the chimps and overnight. Just make sure to have your vaccinations first or you won't be allowed in!
Gombe Stream National Park
Tanzania's Gombe Stream National Park, made famous by Jane Goodall, is easy to combine with your Tanzanian safari to the Serengeti or Selous. Many of the chimps in Gombe are habituated so you enjoy personal primate interaction in their natural environment.
Mahale Mountain National Park
Mahale, a massive rainforest in Tanzania, is the least accessible and therefore possibly the best place to do your chimp trekking. The Chimps are reasonably habituated, plenty of other primates, and you may be the only people around!
Kibale Forest
Enjoy a guided Chimp tracking walk, deep in the valley of the thick Kibale Forest. There are 500 chimps and numerous other primates to spot on this relatively easy tour. Perfect to combine with a gorilla Trekking Safari.
