Old Mondoro
Old Mondoro, a rustic safari camp located in the Lower Zambezi National Park, aims to provide guests with an unpretentious, authentic safari experience.
Set in a grove of acacia trees, Old Mondoro, stemming from the native word for ‘lion', is a small bush camp perfectly positioned on the banks of the mighty Zambezi River.
Overlooking reed islands, where buffalo call it their home, are Old Mondoro’s four comfortable bush chalets with en- suite facilities and bucket showers- all adding to the theme and taste of rustic charm.
Accommodating a maximum of eight guests and in the style of the old East African mobile camps, reed walls protect the chalets and each room is complete with a sink (hot water is brought on request), mirror and private deck with canvas chairs.
At night, lanterns light the way to the lounge and dining area and by day the covering sausage and winter thorn trees shade this glorious deck. Here tasty home-style food is served, accompanied by fresh bread, baked daily in an earthy oven.
Take time out and spend an afternoon in the library, reading interesting novels whilst sipping on a soothing whiskey. After a night under the stars enjoyed amongst friends, the glowing campfire screams for those enjoying a bit of piece and quiet in the wild.
Furthering the authenticity of the camp, motorized vehicles are avoided and walking safaris through the Lower Zambezi National Park are a specialty.
In fact, the walking safaris are known to be the best in the national park. On a typical day at Old Mondoro, it starts with a light breakfast, followed by a morning walk and finally returning to a heavenly brunch. After gaining plenty energy, you are then encouraged to go game-viewing either by canoe, boat or on a game drive.
To the west of the Lower Zambezi National Park, elephant, lion and buffalo are found in abundance and to the east leopard, serval and wild dog rove.
Boat trips, game-drives, canoeing, and other special activities are all on offer at Old Mondoro Bushcamp.
To truly get back to basics and enjoy a simple bush camp, Old Mondoro Bushcamp is a reflection of Africa at its best!
