Mandela Park Mosaics

Mandela Park Mosaics, Responsible Tourism

Our country is in the process of embracing its diversity and creating something new - an 'African Culture' that encompasses all. Mandela Park Mosaics is synonymous with this positive new trend.

X-Factors of Mandela Park Mosaics

Feel the spirit of the township
  Help people help themselves
Make a contribution through your holiday
  Take home works of art!

Started in 2000 by Vanessa Ratcliffe and Mandy Fisher as an upliftment program, empowering women in the Imizamo Yethu township, Mandela Park Mosaics now has a group of highly skilled women creating mosaic masterpieces.

Mandela Park Mosaics has now been handed over to LEARN to EARN in Khayelitscha, a well established NGO. Their "a hand up, not a hand out" ethos is set to take this fledgling mosaic arts project to new heights.   They will continue to be proud South African suppliers of personalised and hand crafted mosaic art directly to the public. The range of functional items are on sale direct to visitors and by special commission from othe studio at LEARN to EARN.

Most of the artists at Mandela Park Mosaics are the sole breadwinners in their households. These women had no previous knowledge or skill relevant to mosaic work. Since 2000 they have been fully trained and can now successfully complete mosaic works of great proportion. All of the women involved are devoted to the project and are very anxious to see it grow. Part of this determination is due to their realization that the project is a vehicle for them to achieve their own dreams.

We invite you to meet the artists and learn more about the dreams and determined aspirations of these amazing women.

If you would like to meet the artists or have a mosaic artwork specially comissioned by Mandela Park Mosaics, then please contact Andrew at LEARN to EARN on 083 4002145

Vanessa Ratcliffe
Mosaic artwork is a passion of Vanessa's which she combined with a desire to uplift women in impoverished surroundings by founding Mandela Park Mosaics in 2000. We encourage you to visit Mandela Park Mosaics on your holiday to experience the joy and hope that these women now exude. To buy some of their superb mosaics, have a look at the selection here!
