- Personable and hospitable hosts at each well chosen property
- The opportunity to interact with the locals
- Travel off the beaten track at your own pace
- The route presents extraordinary and diverse landscape and attractions
The beauty of self-drive tours is that they allow you the opportunity to really discover the country as you travel through it, chancing upon quaint farmstalls and remote towns and their welcoming inhabitants.
Woven into this self-drive tour are the wondrous places, renowned attractions, and diverse landscapes unique to the Cape. Become acquainted with South Africa’s finest wines during forays into Stellenbosch and Franschhoek (South Africa’s gourmet capital). Spectacular roadside scenery in the Klein Karoo is of arid plains, fertile valleys and mountains with unusual rock formations. Quaint Karoo towns will introduce you to the Afrikaaner culture and fabulous boerekos (‘farm food’), which is so typically South African.
As you travel onwards, vistas change dramatically from arid landscapes to the lush indigenous forests of the Garden Route.
Your final stop is at the heart of the Garden Route: the coastal town of Knysna is set around a lagoon and tidal estuary bordering the forests and is characterised by picturesque streets and old buildings reflecting a colourful history of seafarers, woodcutters, timber merchants and gold diggers
