Bisate Lodge is operated by renowned ecotourism company, Wilderness Safaris who, after careful negotiation and environmental impact assessments, have secured a lease on an amazing tract of land in a location on a forested hillside in Rwanda, perfectly positioned to offer guests access to the Mountain Gorillas in the Volcanoes National Park. Set in a natural amphitheatre formed by corroded volcano cones, it is one of the few sustainable luxury lodges in the region.

This luxury safari lodge lies tucked away in a lush forest setting with dramatic views of the surrounding Bisoke, Mikeno and Karisimbi volcano peaks. It is the ideal destination from which to go on gorilla trek as the lodge is conveniently located in close driving proximity of the Volcanoes National Park headquarters, from which the gorilla tracking expeditions depart on a daily basis.

Bisate comprises of six conically shaped, thatched forest villas that perfectly reflect the rural Rwandan culture whilst blending effortlessly into the natural surroundings. The elegant interiors are warm and welcoming, expertly combining traditional products with modern touches whilst keeping environmental principles in mind. It is the perfect base from which to explore the iconic mountain gorilla, as well as all the other mammals that thrive in the Volcanoes National Park such as the endangered golden monkey, black-fronted duiker, elephant, buffalo, striped jackal and tree hyrax. Visiting Rwanda is as much about its local people as it is about the wildlife, and Bisate lies within a friendly rural area which allows visitors ample opportunities of meeting its local people. The lodge has planted over 15 000 trees as part of their reforestation project, as well as rehabilitation projects to conserve the iconic and gravely endangered mountain gorilla.

Activities on offer at the lodge include: track one of the twelve habituated groups of mountain gorillas with the help of skilled trackers, hike the steep incline to the grave and site of the research camp of Dian Fossey, renowned for her work on the mountain gorilla, become part of Rwanda’s conservation attempts by planting a tree to assist in their reforestation efforts, visit the local lby’wacu cultural village to immerse yourself in Rwandan culture, or simply enjoy a refreshing sundowner on the edge of a platform with sweeping views across the volcanoes and lush forested carpet of the Volcanoes National Park.
