A panorama of mountains with the snow-tipped peaks and glaciers of Mount Kenya to the south and desert to the north, provide an idyllic backdrop for your holiday at Borana. A family home for three generations, Borana takes its name from the native Boran cattle farmed on these arid grasslands. This beautiful ranch sits within a vast conservation area and the present owners are dedicated to working to preserve the natural environment and to promote economic and social improvements in the area. To visit Borana is to fall in love with the wild and soul-enriching isolation of ancient Africa.
Eight cottages make up the accommodation at Borana. All the cottages are entirely secluded and have private views from both bedroom and bathroom of the valley below. Four of the cottages decorated in a muted palate to echo the surrounds, have their own veranda. Two sets of cottages share a veranda, both of which have breathtaking views over the dam.
Each cottage also has an open-fireplace lit every evening by the room stewardess; a basket of firewood is kept in each room. The bathrooms are the epitome of luxury: spacious, clean and all with exceptional views over the African bush.
The Lodge has a gorgeous verdant garden of largely indigenous plants chosen for their scents, colours and flowers. An infinity pool enables you to relax, read and soak up the sun while you watch the elephants wandering their well-trodden path to the watering hole. The pool veranda is a favourite place to gather, for a long, leisurely lunch watching the natural world unfold before you.
Designed to work in harmony with the landscape and is created from local, sustainable building materials Borana enjoys an idyllic setting. All areas of the Lodge overlook a lake that is a popular watering hole for the local animals so there is constant activity for guests to watch.
