Salt Rock, on KwaZulu Natal’s North (Dolphin) Coast is known for its year-round welcoming weather and irresistibly warm Indian Ocean. Sleek, chic and spacious, the luxurious Canelands Beach Club & Spa is located literally a few paces from Tiffany’s Beach, so guests can fall asleep to the sound of waves kissing the shoreline. Through large-paned windows, four of the ten elegant en-suite bedrooms have uninterrupted views of the sea and of the beach below, the other six rooms overlook lush gardens. Running along the front if the club is an impressive 25m swimming pool, with a wooden deck and sun-loungers.
True to the region’s name, dolphins pass by daily. The deck offers guests a wonderful opportunity to watch them play in the surf and it has become a tradition at the Club that when guests see dolphins pass, they alert other guests to their presence by ringing the ‘pool-bell’.
If right on the beach is where you like to be, a flag in the sand calls the ‘beach butler’, who will serve you refreshments on the beach. Known for its rugged, unspoilt coastline, the nearby rock pools offer exciting opportunities for discovering sea life. A “grannies pool”, which is ideal for small children, is located to the left of the club. The swimming beach is a short walk away and for those who can’t tear themselves away from the ocean, activities such as boat trips canoeing, fishing and whale watching are all close at hand.
The restaurant serves a continental breakfast daily and an a la carte menu throughout the day. By prior arrangement, guests can be treated to a traditional South African “braai”, a barbeque over an open coal file that lends itself to socialising around the fire.
Sporting enthusiasts will be able to enjoy the area in diverse ways, from golfing to scuba diving, from deep sea fishing to micro-lighting, there will be something to keep you entertained.
