People from all over the world are drawn to Chundukwa River Lodge not only because of its exquisite setting amongst a lush thicket of trees on the banks of the Zambezi River, and proximity to Victoria Falls, but because this owner-run establishment is one of the ultimate adventure locations. There are so many activities to take part in at Chundukwa that you’ll need to remember to schedule some time to relax! The lodge is not a game lodge, but is located just across from the Zambezi National Park, where lion, hyena and hippo are a common sighting.
The chalet accommodation includes five stilted chalets, including two Honeymoon chalets and one family cottage, sleeping 6. The family chalet offers two en-suite bedrooms and a third child’s bedroom with bunk beds – as well as a lounge, dining room, plunge pool and viewing deck.
The cottage is serviced by a waiter and a private chef. The stilted chalets have open fronts, allowing for maximum appreciation of the beautiful landscape that unfolds and changes throughout the day. The lodge has a hands-on and welcoming feel about it, owing to owners and hosts, Peter and Orla, who have worked in the safari industry for years and welcome guests as if they were returning home.
The main lodge faces the Zambezi River, and is the communal space for guests, boasting a bar, restaurant, pool and relaxation areas. Hippo can regularly be sighted along the edge of the river, and birdlife is rich.
Activities in the area include: superb tiger fishing; guided trips to Victoria Falls; sunset cruises along the Zambezi; visiting local rural villages; white-water rafting; bungee jumping; canoeing; horse-riding; helicopter flights; abseiling; skydiving; walking safaris and visits to the nearby Reptile Park.
Chundukwa is popular with return guests due to the level of service and value-for-money offered, not to mention its exceptional location.
After a day chock-full with activities, what could be better than reclining under the stars and feasting on delectable cuisine, with only the sounds of nature and the flowing river in ear-shot? Well, only reliving it all again the next day.
