The wonderfully luxurious Endoro Lodge in northeast Tanzania is located near the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known most famously for the Ngorongoro Crater. The almost three million year old extinct volcano caldera – the result of a volcano exploding and collapsing in on itself – is lined with walls of towering trees and the lush crater floor, a haven of grasslands, floodplains and forests, is home to an abundance of wildlife such as elephants, lions, zebras, buffalo and rhinos. With the eco-friendly Endoro Lodge overlooking this breathtaking part of the world, guests are guaranteed an uplifting, memorable stay.
As part of the Kensington Portfolio, Endoro Lodge offers 18 ultra comfortable chalets, each with the option of a private valet service. The chalets are tastefully decorated, a blend of modern and traditional, and include soft, warm beds with mosquito nets, a fireplace, a sunken bathtub and private deck. The chalets have been designed with large windows so as to maximise on the beautiful views.
At the main area of the lodge, guests are treated to elegant four-course dinners made lovingly by the chef as well as a roaring campfire for outdoor drinks and the opportunity for some incredible stargazing. There’s also a curio shop for those guests who want to take home a keepsake.
There are many adventures on offer at Endoro Lodge. Guests are able to take guided nature walks and hikes where they are guaranteed plenty of bird and animal sightings; a visit to the Elephant Caves is truly fascinating – the elephants have created their own caves by digging into the surrounding hills for minerals and vitamins. The magnificent 100m Endoro Waterfalls is a wonder not to be missed.
This area of East Africa is steeped in culture and there are many highlights to partake in: a bicycle tour through the local town where a visit to schools and factories can be arranged, an afternoon spent in the home of local tribesmen, where traditional dancing is learnt and food is served. The guided Rim Walk along the edge of Ngorongoro Highland Forest is a spectacular sight to behold.
