Gorah Elephant Camp

Gorah Elephant Camp

A fabulous tented camp in an exclusive private concession of the legendary Addo Elephant National Park, Gorah Elephant Camp takes you back to a bygone era of safari romance and adventure. Looking out over sweeping views of the park and a nearby waterhole where elephants regularly drink, the camp is unfenced so you are immersed in the sights and sounds of Africa. Addo is known not just for its elephants but also for its big cats and a plethora of wildlife, and is perfectly located in South Africa’s malaria-free Eastern Cape making an ideal finale to a vacation along the Garden Route.

The 11 luxurious tented suites are very spacious and sheltered by thatched roofs with private decks looking out over the view. Beautifully furnished with four poster beds made up in softest linen, there is plenty of storage space, plush couch and chairs and en-suite bathrooms. Solar powered lighting and ceiling fans retain the simplicity of olden day safaris and the decor is elegant and understated.

The tents extend outward along the hillside from the historic Gorah Manor House, which has a colonial feel of grandeur, adding that note of sophistication to the dining experience with crystal, silver and white linen. Lavish and creative meals are served by candlelight next to roaring fires in winter, or looking out over the verandah to the herds drinking at the waterhole in summer. Gourmet barbecues in the outdoor boma are another feature, sharing stories around the camp fire to the tastes of superb African cuisine.

Two fascinating game drives a day explore the diverse landscapes of the Addo Elephant Park, where there is the densest elephant population in the world, as well as healthy populations of lion, plains game, rhino and not least the flightless dung beetle, a rare creature that is only found within the Addo National Park. Experienced guides make each drive an informative and fascinating adventure.

Choose Gorah Elephant Camp for an authentic African safari experience steeped in luxury and old world glamour and for memorable hours spent in the company of the most majestic of African animals, the elephant.
