Gorilla Trekking

Gorilla trekking has continued to become more and more popular as the countries that house these magnificent creatures shake off their reputations of being unsafe, and welcome visitors with open arms and warm hospitality with both Uganda and Rwanda offering authentic gorilla trekking experiences.

The mountain gorilla is the best known of the gorilla subspecies and is also the rarest and most tracked. With its habitat unfortunately ever decreasing, the Virunga Mountains in Rwanda and the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in Uganda have become some of the last bastions of these beautiful primates. Known for being incredibly playful, spending time with them in their natural environment is something that will stay with you for the rest of your life.

With visits strictly monitored by experienced guides and a permit system in place for visitors, the respective countries are taking steps to ensure that the gorillas are not hassled and the experience is an enjoyable one for all. Combine a gorilla trek with a visit to a chimpanzee sanctuary and revel in the intelligence and playful curiosity of these fascinating animals.
