Built on the circular lines of a Tsonga village, Hoyo-Hoyo Safari Lodge adds five star modern luxury to the traditional hospitality of the local people in this beautiful corner of South Africa’s Kruger National Park. The Kruger’s renowned game-viewing, Big 5 included, combines with fascinating insights into the Shangaan culture for a unique safari experience. In between meals and game drives, guests can relax on the viewing deck and watch elephants and game as they come to drink at the waterhole, dip in the pool or enjoy a therapeutic massage at the Nomadic Spa.
Traditional in form and design, the six cylindrical thatched rooms lose all resemblance to an African hut once inside the luxurious, air-conditioned interior. While the decor is inspired by earthy colours and elements of local patterns and textiles, all the comforts of modern life are in place, with big beds, subtle lighting and a spacious en-suite bathroom with oval bath tub, flush toilet and private outdoor shower. Sliding glass doors open onto a private verandah with secluded views over the wilderness.
Guests gather for dinner in the main dining room by the fire, or outside under the stars, where the evening is enlivened by storytelling, drumming and dance from the Shangaan staff or by enthralling Sangoma introductions.
Meals are generously portioned, with a cooked and buffet breakfast served after the morning game drive, a light lunch, followed by afternoon tea before the next drive, and then a three course dinner, not to mention the snacks and drinks served during the drives. For an extra adventure you can enjoy a bush dinner out in the wilderness among the wildlife, a unique opportunity in this private concession that also allows for guided bush walks.
Informative rangers make every effort to find all the Big 5 and so much more besides on the twice daily game drives, and share their knowledge and passion for the animals and birdlife, stopping for sundowners and snacks in strategic viewing points.
Altogether Hoyo-Hoyo gives guests a wonderful introduction to the African safari and culture in its own unique style, along with plenty of pampering and luxury.
