An intimate and exclusive safari getaway awaits at Idube Game Reserve, situated on the Sabi Sands Reserve inside the larger Kruger Park. With only nine chalets and two newly completed suites, a maximum of 22 guests can be accommodated, making personal attention and a true warm African welcome part of the experience here. Wild animals such as buck, monkey and warthog wander through the indigenous gardens, between the lodge and chalets; and there is no truer feeling of being part of Africa than being able to sit on your private deck and watch these creatures roam past.
Seeing the Big Five and many of the other species on the reserve’s 10 000 ha land is a major thrill. Trained rangers take guests on game drives or even bush walks, for the ultimate active safari experience. Animals such as zebra and kudu are majestic to see, while around 300 bird species in the reserve will keep twitchers enthralled. Throughout your stay you can see game from the various viewing platforms scattered around the lodge. There is also a dam nearby with a special sunken hide to get up close to see the wild animals slaking their thirst.
The nine Safari Chalets are decorated with warm African tones and romantic mosquito nets drape over the beds. Private decks with luxurious armchairs beckon guests to relax and watch the animals in the surrounding bush and garden.
The two new Makubela Suites, set along secluded wooden walkways, can be made interleading, perfect for a family group. These suites not only boast their own private pool in addition to the lodge pool as well as an expansive deck but they also have a lounge and an outside shower for that real outdoors experience. The warm décor feel with authentic ethnic touches is continued here. For an intimate dining experience, private dinners are served by lamplight on the deck.
As for other meals, the open-air deck is where breakfast and lunch is served, while dinners are under the stars in the boma or at a bush venue. Authentic South African barbeques are the order of the day, a perfect opportunity to try exotic game meats.

Idube has 8 en-suite safari chalets, each individually decorated with attractively draped mosquito nets, giving a touch of safari romance. Windows also have mosquito gauze for added comfort.
All chalets have air-conditioner, fan, tea coffee facilities and outside shower. Bathrooms have had a complete makeover and all have double vanity basins, bath, toilet and shower and are finished in attractive natural colours and textures. Geysers (boilers) are powered by gas to reduce use of electricity.
Each Safari chalet has its own private deck furnished with large, comfortable chairs – just the place to enjoy the birds or watch Idube’s daily animal visitors feeding, as they make their relaxed way across the grass and between the chalets.
The Makubela Suites are Idube’s brand new suites completed in February 2011. Take a walk down the wooden walkway and you will be in your own private world, apart from any other buildings and completely surrounded by natural bush.
Each spacious suite has an entrance hall, bedroom and lunge, large bathroom, including bath and shower, and a separate outside shower, which are accessible from both the bathroom and the outside deck. The 2 suites can be made inter-leading.
Suites each have a mini bar, tea and coffee facilities, safe, hairdryer, overhead fan, air-conditioner, mosquito net and mosquito screens on windows. Rooms open up with sliding/folding doors on 2 sides to a large wooden patio, into which is set a private pool. The view is all out to the bush beyond and the animals wandering freely across the clearing.
As part of the Makubela package, dinner can be served at your suite. The lantern lit romantic dinner served on the private deck will add another unforgettable memory of your Idube holiday.
The name Makubela is a tribute to the female leopard seen many times by Idube guests over the years. She was fatally mauled by a male and she sought refuge at Idube, where she died. We remember how this beautiful created added wonder and pleasure to our lives.
Idube accept children from the age of 8 in the lodge and children between the ages of 8-12 are able to share with the parents.
With more space, the Makubela are perfect for families.
