Set on the river Khwai that forms the border of the Moremi Game Reserve in Botswana’s breathtaking Okavango Delta, Khwai Tented Camp offers the real thing: genuine African wilderness, traditional safari tents with a touch of luxury and the roar of lions somewhere in the distance. And as this enclave of opulence is situated on the edge of a lagoon that runs into the Khwai river, it’s the perfect spot to view Africa’s most impressive mammals in their natural habitat. Lions, leopards, elephants, hippos, buffalo… they’re all present in this unique landscape made up of water, open grasslands and leadwood and fig tree forests.
The camp consists of six lavish tents on timber decks and can host up to 12 guests. One of the highlights here is the sheer joy of sleeping under the African sky with just the tent’s canvas separating you from the sounds of the bush – and it certainly ensures a good night’s rest to boot. The en suite bathrooms boast open-air hot water showers while the fact that the entire tent is insect proofed means that guests can enjoy the romantic safari experience without any discomfort or irritation.
The beautifully appointed main lounge and bar area just adds to the relaxation at Khwai, and the excellent staff members are always at the ready to cater for your every whim, and to whip up delicious meals – made from only the freshest ingredients – in the camp’s trademark bush-style cuisine.
Activities include morning, afternoon and night-time game drives with expert guides and visits to the village of Khwai – where you’ll have the opportunity to chat to the locals who live in perfect harmony with their environment. An added bonus of staying in Khwai’s Tented Camp is the opportunity to go on a guided walk in the bush – something not allowed in the Moremi National Park itself.
Khwai’s Tented camp can be reached by chartered flight to Khwai’s airstrip via Maun (30 min) or Kasane (1 hour).
