Kwando Lebala Camp is situated in northern Botswana’s Kwando Reserve, on the beautiful wetlands of Linyanti, which form the border between Botswana and Namibia. The reserve is an enormous area of mopane tree and riverine forests, surrounded by vast open floodplains spanning approximately 2 300km². Although relatively small and understated, Kwando Lebala has the deserved reputation as one of the best African safari camps for big game sightings, most notably its prevalence of predators. Guests can expect to see large numbers of elephant, lion, wild dogs, wildebeest, giraffe, zebra, cheetahs and leopards, among many others. Setswana for “wide-open plains”, this establishment definitely lives up to its name.
In contrast to the magnificence of the reserve, Kwando Lebala is an intimate and elegant camp offering world-class, personalized service. Comprising eight large safari-style tents, it offers guests the utmost in comfort and hospitality. Each tent has an authentic African feel, furnished with Rhodesian teak and typical flourishes. Raised on stilts with private decks, the tents boast extensive views of the surrounding floodplains and marshes below. The tents all have a private en suite bathroom with stylish claw-foot freestanding baths and spacious showers.
The main area of the camp is accessed via a small footbridge over a channel covered in water lilies, offering guests some great communal areas in which to unwind and socialize. In the evenings, there’s a campfire, around which stories of the day’s game drives are shared among fellow travellers.
The plunge pool is the perfect spot to cool off during the hot summer afternoons, while the cozy lounge area, stuffed with armchairs and sofas, provide a welcome respite in-between daily game-viewing activities.
Kwando Lebala organizes daily excursions offering incredible up-close-and-personal experiences with the great African wilderness. Guests can go on one of the daily game drives that run throughout the day and night, operated by expert guides with a wealth of experience in game tracking. There are also guided nature walks, allowing guests to become fully immersed in the wild, unspoilt African bush.
For those who prefer a more relaxed pastime, birdwatchers will be delighted by the different species that call this utopia home.
