One of the most secluded camps in Botswana’s Okavango, Kwetsani Camp, lies on an extended island dotted with mangosteen, palm, and fig trees and is located in the Jao Concession on the same floodplain as the well-known Jao Camp. The reserve measures 60 000 hectares and lies in the north-western part of the Okavango Delta, bordering the Moremi Game Reserve on the West.

Kwetsani Camp is situated on the drier part of the reserve, yet from September to May the floodwaters drive through producing a fertile wetland which attracts the most unbelievable variety of wildlife. This Botswana Safari offering features five elegantly furnished ‘tree-house’ chalets made out of a combination of thatch, glass, canvas and wood, each with an en-suite bathroom and an outdoor shower. All of the chalets have expansive views over the floodplains and are built on raised wooden decks that are connected to one another by wooden walkways. The Camp’s main area consists of a dining room, drinks and lounge area all under a cool thatched roof that leads out to an extensive deck overlooking the vast floodplains from where guests can comfortably view lechwe, wildebeest or other plains game. There is also a plunge pool with loungers for cooling off during the hot midday sun.

Kwetsani Camp offers a combination of superb water and land-based activities, depending on the time of year, and annual flood levels. Guests can view the huge diversity of wildlife from traditional dugout ‘mokoro’ canoes along the narrow waterways of the Okavango past reed beds and papyrus, or go on wonderful game drives in 4×4 vehicles, or explore the area on foot. Leopard, cheetah, tsessebe, and lion are among the main game attractions while sitatunga antelope, hippo and crocodile can be spotted in the deeper lagoons which feature water-lilies all year round. During high water levels, boats ferry guests to nearby Hunda Island for land-based safaris. There is also a hide raised on stilts that visitors can use for ‘sleep outs’ on request. Fishing is also offered at the camp on a catch and release basis.

This Botswana Safari experience offers an abundance of wildlife for all seasons and is also a bird-lovers paradise. Guests can look forward to spotting the Pels Fishing Owl and large flocks of Wattled Crane.
