The Masai Mara Sopa Lodge is one of the oldest lodges in the Masai Mara which means that the gardens and trees are very established and mature, and the lodge blends easily into the surrounds. Situated on the incline of the Oloolaimutia Hills on the border of the famous Masai Mara Game Reserve, the lodge overlooks the game dense savannahs in the valley below, and is a mere 250 kilometres from Nairobi. This is an ideal location from where you can enjoy the spectacle of the Great Migration that takes place every year due to its proximity to the Masai Mara Reserve gates.
The lodge is built in African round-house style and features a large central guest area that contains the reception and a cavernous circular thatch-roofed lounge area with huge fireplaces and several well-stocked bars both inside and out. It is decorated in ambient African style with warm colours which set an easy and informal tone.
Outside the lounge a large viewing deck and bar provide fantastic views of the flowing gardens, pristine swimming pool and the valley beyond. A timber walkway provides access to an outdoor dining area where afternoon teas are served every day. The dining room provides a wonderful space where guests can enjoy superbly succulent cuisine created from locally sourced meats and produce.
Accommodation is provided in fifty separate round-houses situated in two wings on either side of the central area. All houses comprise of two large guest rooms with double beds draped in mosquito nets and feature beautiful en-suite bathrooms and wonderful outside deck with stunning views across the gardens and game-filled valley beyond.
Some houses are larger and contain their own inside and outside guest lounge areas. The honeymoon suite is spectacularly spacious and appointed to maximise privacy and views, and is lavishly furnished to provide exclusive comfort. The sunken bath in the magnificent bathroom is positioned to provide breathtaking views over the plains, and a shaded patio provides further vistas.
Activities here centre on game viewing and ultimate relaxation, and regular game drives, hikes and lounging by the pool are the order of the day!
