Mfuwe Lodge is located in one of the most game rich corners within in the South Luangwa National Park. It is the ideal place to stay after doing a walking safari to the other bushcamps in the area.  The airy thatched lodge is set amongst mature ebony and mahogany trees on the banks of two lagoons. This award winning Zambian lodge offers superb game watching from the open deck in lodge, on game drives or on foot. It also has a spa which is perfect for relaxation after a walking safari in the South Luangwa.

Set inside the park, just five minutes’ drive from the main gate, the lodge’s allure is instantly obvious. Beneath a canopy of ebony and mahogany trees, its thatched buildings are arranged around the banks of two lagoons where an endless stream of wildlife will keep you enthralled as you lounge on the open deck or take a dip in the swimming pool. Thanks to a thorough refurbishment in 2010 the airy interior of the lodge is an exquisite complement to its natural surroundings.

MfuweLodge is most famous for its local herd of elephants who, once a year in November, wander through the lodge’s reception en route to their favourite wild mango tree. “The fact that a large safari lodge is built around this delicious food store is of no concern to her…after all, why walk the extra few metres to go around, when there are some nice steps and a tiled reception lobby to saunter through each day?” !!

This region of the park is renowned for its prolific game – giraffe, buffalo, antelope, crocodile are constant visitors to Mfuwe Lodge’s lagoon, whilst in November the local elephants regularly wander right through the lobby, lured by a nearby wild mango tree. Whether you stay overnight, or just have lunch en route to a bushcamp, Mfuwe Lodge’s relaxed charm and enviable surroundings make it the perfect stopover. Voted Best Lodge in Zambia in 2009 Mfuwe Lodge also offers you the chance to relax at its Bush-Spa or buy a few momentos of your time in Zambia at our curio shop.

Eighteen thatched chalets are spread out along the shaded banks of two lagoons  two lagoon’s shady banks ensuring privacy and a great vantage point to watch resident pods of hippo as well as giraffe, buffalo, antelope and crocodiles –  all regular visitors to the lagoon. The chalets have comfy lounges and en-suite bathrooms with panoramic walk-in showers.  There is a swimming pool, curio shop and Bush-Spa.

Game-viewing in the area around Mfuwe Lodge is excellent and we recommend doing a walking safari (on request) although most safaris are in open safari vehicles so that guests can experience as much of the Luangwa Valley as possible. Other activities include birdwatching,  cultural visits to the local village, school and craft market.

The lodge is open all year round. Children are welcome, however, only children over 12 are allowed to go on walking safaris.
