The home-style Ngorongoro Farm House in the Ngorongoro Karatu area of northern Tanzania was designed to emulate the farmhouse ideals of older colonial lodges in the area, and after 10 years of excellent service, it has proven to be a wonderful holiday destination. The lodge is located near the famous Ngorongoro Crater – a 260km2 inactive volcano located in the magnificent Ngorongoro Conservation Area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The now dormant volcano, which is known to some as the eighth wonder of the world, exploded almost 3 million years ago and formed the enormous crater that it is today, full of beautiful landscapes and wildlife.
At the Ngorongoro Farmhouse lodge, exclusivity and comfort is top of mind. Set on 750 acres of private land, the lodge is completely self-sufficient with a thriving vegetable garden and animals such as cows, sheep and pigs. With two camps located on the expansive property, which house a total of 52 cottages, 49 standard rooms and three suites set amongst the coffee plantations, there’s comfortable accommodation to suit all types of travellers from families to couples to individuals. And even though there are many suites, the sheer size of the property still ensures total privacy. All suites are spacious and lovingly furnished and decorated to provide guests with the feeling of colonial times. The main area of the lodge, where all meals are served and which looks out over the enormous Oldeani Volcano, also features a sparkling swimming pool where guests can take time out to unwind.
There are many activities to keep guests busy such as an interesting guided tour around the farm for a behind-the-scenes sneak peek; a walking safari through the nearby forest to the Oldeani Volcano; a trip to the Rift Valley’s Lake Eyasi where the Hadzabe tribe still exist in the manner of ancient times as well as an invigorating two hour Masai walk where a Masai guide educates guests on local culture and traditions. Private game drives can also be arranged.
Ngorongoro Farmhouse is the ideal location for those wanting to absorb the local culture of Tanzania.
