Situated on the banks of the Maunachira River, which flows through Xakanaxa Lagoon in the famous Moremi Game Reserve, the luxurious Camp Okuti is slap bang in the middle of one of the Okavango Delta’s prime game viewing regions. Made up of nine spacious curved thatched chalets that are built on raised decks, each of the tents has its own balcony that boasts an unparalleled view of one of the delta’s most magnificent lagoons. Each beautifully furnished and comfortable unit has twin beds, en-suite bathrooms complete with hot and cold running water, indoor and outdoor showers and flushable toilets.
The camp also comes with a luxurious honeymoon unit that features a double bed and a private bath, giving newlyweds the opportunity to soak in the tub, underneath Botswana’s vast blue sky. In addition there is a family tent that has two-bedrooms and spacious bathroom facilities, making it ideal for families with children.
Guests can eat al fresco in the open boma, or privately. The camp also has a lounge, library, swimming pool and full bar facilities.
Moremi Game Reserve is in the centre of the Okavango Delta, and is a 3 000 sq. km stretch of paradise. Considered one of the world’s most unspoilt wilderness areas, the region around Camp Okuti has flourished undisturbed since 1963, when the Tswana people first proclaimed it to be a wildlife reserve. Now, this diverse place of lily-covered wetlands, forests and grassy plains is known to be a photographer’s paradise.
Elephants roam in abundance, along with a huge variety of other wildlife including lion, leopard, cheetah, buffalo, giraffe, wild dog, hyena, jackal and antelope. Although guests are guaranteed all year round game viewing, peak season is from June to October. In these dry winter months the seasonal pans dry up and the game congregate around the more permanent water sources.
Guests at Camp Okuti can take advantage of a variety of outings, by boat or 4×4. The game drives are conducted in open vehicles by experienced guides who will take you to view some of the most unique game and birding areas in Africa. If you choose to venture upstream in a motorboat keep your eyes peeled for sightings of the magnificent Fish Eagle, as well as hippo and crocodile.
