5 * Family Trip – Cape Town, Franschhoek, Kruger

Hi Camille.

We made it back to the US safe and sound yesterday.

Linda and I and the boys can’t thank you enough for the fantastic trip you planned for us.  We had a great time and a very memorable family experience that we will always treasure.

Every single hotel, restaurant or attraction you recommended was worthwhile without exception.  Here is some specific feedback.

Cape Town:  We loved the Mount Nelson. Charlie was a fantastic guidevery knowledgable, friendly and courteous.  Our shark cage dive was cancelled but the day tour of Cape Point and the meal at Two Oceans was outstanding.  Aubergine was good, not great.  Test Kitchen was a fantastic experience and the food and service excellent, but a bit overwhelming and long – 5 hours. Pot Luck Club was probably the best meal we had in Capetown.

Franschhoek:  The Leeu House was very nice and the staff courteous.  Our room was very nice but the boys’ room had problem with hot water and a nonworking telephone. The Quartier Francais might be a nice alternative in the future.  The meal at Tasting Room was outstanding, the family rated it slightly better than Test Kitchen.  Delaire Graf and Petit Ferme were fantastic recommendations to visit for the views, with good but not great food.  We didnt make the meal at Foliage because we were just fooded out by that time.  Our wine tasting schedule was too ambitious (my fault not yours) so we scaled it back.  Loved the food and steak frites at Rust En Vrede and ordered a case for delivery to the states.  Loved the wine and cheese tasting at Fairview.

Lebombo:  A great safari experience in every respect.  Very unique facility, great rooms, good (but not great) food, attentive staff.  Our safari guide Solomon was outstanding-highly recommend him.  Every bit Charlie’s equal.  We would definitely return here and are also eager to try Boulders.

Earth Lodge:  Very unique property and an excellent complement to the elevated hillside setting of Lebombo.  Very nice, spacious rooms. Breakfasts and lunches were excellent but the dinners were not great. Excellent staff-especially Luke the assistant manager, guide Tayla and butler/food attendant Simon.  We would recommend Earth Lodge for people who are also experiencing more traditional camps like Lebombo.  Not sure it is as good as the sole safari location to visit.

You planned our flights and conections perfectly. There wasnt one negative surprise among all our reservation or itinerary elements.  That is a real tribute to you and the job you do Camille.

Thanks again for everything.  We will highly recommend you to all our friends and you will be the first call we make when planning our next trip to Africa.

All the best.

Rich
