A honeymoon adventure – from the Skeleton Coast in Namibia to the Okavango Delta in Botswana

Hi Liesl,

Thanks for your email. We are back in cold and grey London but would have loved to stay in Southern Africa a lot longer, as we really loved our trip! Everything was well-organised and we loved the beautiful scenery and wildlife. It really was an amazing honeymoon.

In Namibia everything went well and we loved all three areas and lodges, although Hoanib stood out as number one. It is such a fascinating place! Having been there and having done the Skeleton Coast drive and scenic flight, we can see why it gets booked up so far in advance (and why it charges a premium price). The guide and manager (Charles and Clement) there were great and fun and we really enjoyed our stay there. As said though, Fish River Lodge and Kulala were really nice as well, so we would happily recommend these to anyone too. Both areas are beautiful and we would not have wanted to miss either of them! The flights all worked out really well and made the trip very easy. It was extremely turbulent on a few of the flights (especially in the afternoons) as the temperature really heated up. It was quite vomit-inducing but we had some really good travel wrist-bands that really helped – perhaps worth recommending them or travel sickness pills to those travelling at this time of the year.

In Botswana our stay in Machaba was great. The location of the camp is lovely and we saw elephants, hippos, wild dogs and a leopard walking past the river just in front of our room – amazing! All the staff were really nice as well, the food was great and the manager was really helpful when Moremi Air messed up our connecting flight, as the pilot forgot to take us when we were waiting on the airstrip. This was entirely his fault, but still, the Machaba manager helped organise a replacement flight and they kindly took us back to the camp to offer us a free lunch whilst we were waiting, which was really good service.

Our stay in Ngoma was absolutely perfect. The lodge is beautiful and it was absolutely blissful to have a nice bathroom and airconditioned room for a few nights. The view from the rooms and restaurant is spectacular and the food was delicious and the staff were super friendly (save for the guide who was brilliant at tracking down animals but fairly silent otherwise). We saw loads of wildlife here as well, so all in all a perfect place to end our trip.

Thank you for organising everything. Thank you also for giving each place the heads-up that it was our honeymoon – each of the lodges did something special (either champagne or a private dinner) to celebrate our honeymoon so that was really nice. The only place that didn’t was Ngoma because they only realised on our last night that it was our honeymoon and they were really embarrassed about not doing something which was sweet of them!

I hope the above feedback is useful, but let us know if you need anything else.

Best wishes,

Emma
