Single traveller photographer

Hi Lise,

You did good!!! Thanks to all your guidance, my trip to South Africa was a huge success. The game parks were all different and enjoyable. I did have some difficulty at Monwana Game Lodge with the terrible rains. The area was quite flooded and sometimes there were 4 safari vehicles stuck at one time…from other areas in Thornybush. We were rained out on the first morning game drive with heavy rain, lightening and thunder. We did have a bit of rain, sometimes quite a bit, during a couple of our game drives.

My favorite, by far, was Sabi Sabi Little Bush Camp. The photographer was outstanding and available for 2 full days. Had a private safari vehicle for all but the first 2 game drives. When we weren’t on a game drive Hilton was teaching me Lightroom…quite a challenge for me as I’ve been an Adobe Bridge & PS user. Am catching on a bit now as he has continued to help me. If you ever need to organize another photographer I can highly recommend Hilton Kotze. He can be reached at: hilton@africaphotographictravel.co.za. Unfortunately, I didn’t get a chance to use the hot tub or the outdoor shower or the pool as I was busy from the time I got up to crashing into bed about 11 pm. I was on a high so never felt sleep deprived, until I got home!

I did have a serious problem with my camera gear on South African Express, even with all your follow-through and information. It fit under the seat in front of me but had a major incident with a man on board, who the flight attendant said was in charge of SAEx pilots. I’ve since found out that isn’t true but he wrote the incident up. I have written and received a reply from SAEx Customer Service. I’m awaiting another reply. Several people recommended flights by Mango and a couple other local airlines so that may be my option for future travel. I’d also like to check into the landing strips for small planes at some of the areas as the 3 1/2 hour drive to Monwana and to Elephant Plains was horrendous with roads and bridges washed out.

Anyway, thanks so much for your help. I’ll be writing a Trip Advisor report soon on the camps, etc. Am including a few photos…haven’t processed anything lately as I’m going through and deleting lots!
