South Africa self-drive trip – Cape Town, Franschhoek, Knysna and Addo

Dear Candice,

It has been hectic since our return but many thanks for making the superb arrangements for our holiday.

All went very smoothly and although all was great the two highlights were the Akademie Guest House in Franschoek and the Addo Elephant Back Safari Lodge.  The Guest House was just superb and run by Hazel and Declan who just looked after us so well in such wonderful surrounds.  The Addo Lodge was unbelievable and a real adventure.  The flights in and out really set the scene with landing on a bush strip at the Lodge with zebra grazing on the runway was just unbelievable.  It was extra special for me as a pilot of 35 years flying in and out.  Rod the pilot and Collen the manager there gave us the best time ever.  From food to game drives the experience was just wonderful and I have to admit the three elephants are very much part of the experience.  We actually rode them, although it was as painful as ever, and it was good to see them each morning as they set off to feed and enjoy the water at the watering hole at the Lodge.  It was truly magical.

I could go on. Even at the Knysna Hollow we had superb bungalows although with five coach loads of tourists there at one time it was not somewhere I would go again but they were well organised and most of the time we were free of the hoards.  The Township and city tour there were excellent.

The only regret I have is that we did not spend more time in South Africa – we will next time.

Many thanks again and I am sure I will be in touch again soon to arrange another trip.
