Samburu Game Lodge is situated in 10 acres of unspoiled riverine forest on the western bank of the Uaso Nyiro River, which flows through the Samburu National Reserve in northern Kenya. Since it opened in 1963, Samburu Game Lodge has built a reputation of legendary safari experiences and it remains a popular choice for travellers who are looking for a real African adventure. Surrounded by jagged mountains, river and forest, Samburu Game Lodge is a place where eco systems meet. Where leopard, crocodile and elephant co-exist alongside the semi-nomadic Samburu tribe and the romance of the Kenyan safari thrives.
Samburu Game Lodge provides guests with the perfect place to relax after an exciting day viewing game. Each of the 61 rooms at the lodge are decorated by local artists, using the finest materials and fabrics from the area. Duom palm seeds hang on the walls, lampshades are created from leaves and Samburu stones were used to make the smooth floors.
All the accommodations have en suite bathrooms, some with baths and some with showers, and all have private balconies, from where guests can see the crocodiles in the river and watch the herds of elephants coming down to drink. There are several family rooms and one custom designed to suit the needs of the physically challenged.
Guest areas include the Crocodile Bar, which is at river level and from where you can observe crocodiles bathing just meters away. The ‘evening feed’ is an experience not to be missed, when you can see these huge reptiles coming out of the river to fight over their supper. There is also a crystal clear pool in which to cool off in between game drives.
Game drives in the early morning or late afternoon are an unforgettable experience. Taken in specially designed 4x4s, you will head out into the reserve along with an experienced guide. Guests can also go bird watching with the resident ornithologist.
‘Karibu’ the welcome sign says as you arrive. Karibu means welcome in Swahili and that’s exactly how you’ll feel during your stay at Samburu Game Lodge.
