Located at the heart of Tanzania’s world heritage site, Serengeti National Park, Nasikia Central Camp is the base camp of the Nasikia Camp family. There’s a mobile Nasikia camp that moves location every few months to track the migration of the wildebeest too, while the Central Camp resides permanently at this incredible location. March through to June are the peak months due to the timing of the migration and Nasikia Central Camp is within a stone’s throw of this biannual spectacle. However, game viewing here is plentiful throughout the year and despite the camp’s prime location, it’s one of the most reasonably priced establishments here.
As an ideal spot for well-seasoned travellers and families alike, the camp offers 12 semi-permanent spacious traditional safari style tents, each with its own private patio area on which to relax after the day’s come to a close. The tents are thoughtfully equipped with mosquito nets, extra blankets, safety equipment and plenty of storage space. All tents have bedding provided and have been furnished in subtle earthy tones to blend perfectly with the beautiful surroundings. The camp offers single, double, twin, triple and family sized tents, all of which have a separate en suite bathroom.
The communal areas of the camp are charmingly relaxed and laidback allowing guests to be as sociable or as private as they wish. There are evening drinks around the campfire and delicious meals served in the dining area, boasting a fine selection of South African wines. For the romantics there is the opportunity to dine under the African skies from the privacy of your own veranda. Picnic lunches in the bush can be arranged during a long day of game viewing, or you can opt to have your breakfast or lunch al fresco amongst the wildlife for a truly up close and personal experience.
The game drives start at dawn and again at dusk to avoid the midday heat when the animals are resting. They are led by experienced rangers who have a wealth of local knowledge to share and will ensure you get a great feel for this wonderful landscape and its plethora of wildlife.
