Serondella Lodge

Vast African skies, rich bushveld and the dry riverbed of Monwana River in the Thornybush Game Reserve create a dramatic backdrop for the luxury Serondella Game Lodge. Intimate, secluded and exclusive, it’s comprised of only three suites and a family suite, which is perfect for families or friends travelling together.

Large windows in the bedrooms and bathrooms afford guests magnificent views of game that come to satisfy their thirst at the nearby waterhole. Known for its prolific African game and birdlife, Thornybush is home to 147 species of mammals – including the big five – as well as 507 species of birds.

Mosquito nets drape the beds, keeping the insects at bay and creating a romantic mood. Unfussy and elegant with a touch of African charm, the spacious suites are air-conditioned, and along with the inviting swimming pool, provide a quiet respite from the African heat.

Serondella – meaning ‘The Place of the Elephant’ – is named after these magnificent animals that frequently call at the lodges’ two waterholes. Viewing hides provide exciting bird-spotting opportunities for birding enthusiasts and when guests are ready to venture further afield, experienced rangers will guide them on riveting game drives, helping them locate and observe nature at close quarters. Adept Shangaan trackers impart legends and lore of the bush and fascinating tracking skills.

Adventure inevitably works up an appetite, so when morning game drives are over, guests are greeted with a sumptuous breakfast either back at the lodge, or at an idyllic spot in the bush. After some R&R, and possibly a treatment at the stunning Amani Spa, guests can enjoy a late lunch before returning for an afternoon game drive. Spilling over into nighttime, it offers rare and exciting glimpses of a host of nocturnal African game.

Dinner is an extravagant 3-course indulgence. Served either in the boma, the bush or the lodge, its customary for guests to linger around the campfire with a nightcap under a sea of stars.

Considered to be an “astonishingly good safari experience” by previous guest, the lodge prices itself on providing outstanding personal service and an uniquely intimate destination.
